Organize Your Closet With a Few Simple Steps
By Marsha Hansen
How your closet is set up is so important to your everyday life. We all know what you wear for the day can make
or break you. So having your closet organized to provide easy access to your entire wardrobe and accessories will
offer support for every aspect of your life. Organize your closet by item - including type of clothing item. For
your hang up items, put all long sleeve blouses together, all vests together, all slacks together, all jeans
together, all clubbing shirts together, all sports shirts together, all sweaters together and all skirts together.
Once that is done, go through each section and put like colors together. When you do laundry hang things in their
respective section. Now, it won't stay this organized but once you get the hang of it you can reorganize it easily
once in a while. Another very positive and eye pleasing thing to do with your hang up items is to use all the same
type and color of clothes hangers. For instance, all solid and solid brown plastic hangers. Of course the pant and
skirt hangers will be different, but since they are grouped together they will look fine.
Organize your drawers with some kind of inserts so you can keep undies separate from bras and socks. Many types
of dividers are available - plastic, wood and even wire. If you wear the little tiny underwear, you only need a
little tiny space for them, a larger space for bras, a medium space for pantyhose and a bigger space for socks. If
you have more hang up space than drawer space hang up jeans and even sweat pants. If you have ample drawer space
allocate a drawer for jeans and any other casual pants you do not hang up and a drawer for work out clothes and
lounging around the house clothes. You get the idea.
Jewelry is a part of every outfit and needs to be easily accessible. If you have an extra drawer buy some of the
velvety jewelry drawer insert trays and fill up the drawer with them. Some of them are stackable and all are
designed with space shapes appropriate for necklaces, rings, bracelets, pins and earrings. Take an inventory of
your jewelry before you shop for the inserts and buy the ones which will work best for you. If you do not have
drawer space but have space on a dresser of shelf for an item, consider buying a wooden or plastic tower with
drawers in it and put the jewelry trays in the drawers. You could even keep this on the floor of your closet since
it will not be heavy and will stay organized even when you move it if you fit the inserts to it correctly. Maybe
you have somewhere in the bathroom for a plastic tower with jewelry in it. Once you start using any of these
techniques you will come up with more of you own and you can customize a system that will work for you.
