Nifty Tools to Help You Organize Your Kitchen
By Patrick Carpen
Is your kitchen looking a little cluttered? Sometimes life can be so hectic that it's hard to find time to
create a place for every item in the kitchen or pantry, or perhaps your situation is one that stems from a simple
lack of storage space. Whatever your needs may be for organization, there are plenty of ingenious items available
that will not only free up space in your kitchen, but will making cooking and cleaning a much simpler task!
Over-the-Door Organizers
I just love these things! Doors, while quite necessary for keeping items out of sight, have the potential of
providing several feet of storage space. An over-the-door organizer hooks on with one or two (depending on the size
of the organizer) flat-topped hooks and has a series of tiered baskets. Hooking a large organizer over your pantry
door can create a space for several items that might otherwise be difficult to find a place for, such as spices,
bottles of oil, and even onions, lemons, etc. Smaller versions of the over-the-door rack are also available for
cabinet doors and drawers. They are quite sturdy and some even have dividers so that you can keep smaller items
together in one tidy spot. The extensive possibilities for OTD organizers definitely make this a must-have for any
cluttered kitchen.
Under-Shelf Units
Under-shelf units are excellent for using the excess "air" space in the cupboard above the rest of your dishes.
These rectangular units hook onto the shelf above, creating a nice cubby for plates or other items. A similar item
to this is the under-shelf cup holder. Branching off from a long, sturdy piece of wire are little hooks to hold
your mugs. Think of all the cupboard space you could free up by suspending your cups in the unused space above the
plates and bowls?
Cabinet and Shelf Organizers
Cabinet and shelf organizers are indeed different units. A cabinet organizer usually goes on floor cabinets to
hold items such as detergents and other cleaning supplies. They may also be used to store potatoes, onions, canned
foods, and other bulky items.
Shelf organizers are generally used in cupboards (both wall-mounted and floor). They are perfect for stacking
dinnerware, as you can stack your dinner plates upright, leaving plenty of spare room for other items. You can also
use them to stack cookie sheets and other baking trays, frying pans, and other miscellaneous cooking pans.
Hanging Pot Rack
This one is absolutely brilliant if you can find a good spot for it. Hanging pot racks are usually oval or round
in shape and hang suspended from the ceiling. They are adorned with hooks that you hang your cots and pans from.
Some even have smaller hooks to hold utensils such as spatulas, spoons, ladles, etc. Think of what you could do
with all of that freed-up cupboard space!
There are many other great inventions designed to make the average kitchen just a little more manageable and
convenient, but unfortunately we can't list them all in one article! Hopefully you've found a bit of inspiration to
rid your kitchen of clutter with one, or many, of these terrific organizers!
